Arnold Ernest Dale was born at Birmingham on 9 February 1921.
His first seaman’s card was issued at South Shields in July 1938. In September 1939 he was galley boy in SS Hazelside, which was sunk by enemy action on 24 September; he was given a new card at South Shields on 18 October and joined Deptford.
Arnold Ernest Dale was killed as a result of enemy action, 11 weeks after his first sinking, by reason of a torpedo attack carried out on SS Deptford from U-38. He was 18.
